ClubBuzz: President's Message for October 2020

ClubBuzz: October 1st, 2020

Message from Peter

Hello everyone. I do hope you and your families are doing well.

The wildfire situation is better but still not over for the year. We have two members in Santa Rosa who were just asked to evacuate.

And the pandemic level has been reduced to Red in San Mateo County which is a positive step.

2020 will go down as a very challenging year.

And a personal note …

My wife Deb and I ventured to Europe to sail on our boat in the Mediterranean which required quarantine in London first. But a delightful experience none the less and I took the liberty of attaching a few photos of us. Well worth the hassle of getting here with all the travel protocols in place. But that is also why no video this month along with my message.

Events

The report from the Club is positive. We were able to have a fun ‘Doktoberfest’ last weekend. We had to change some events in September due to the poor air quality but the entertainers agreed to come back in October so we now have two open-air concerts – the Whisky Hill Billies on October 10th and another fine event on 31st October with Steve Stanley and Friends. That and our regular Zoom events make it a busy social month.

The open-air concerts have been a highlight this Summer and as the seasons move from the Fall to Winter we are working on what else we can do in addition to the Friday Zoom series.

Building

Our Building Committee continues to work diligently with Redwood City on the construction permits. The City is moving slowly but we are confident we shall get these approvals shortly. We are still expecting the building completion by Dec 2021.

Membership

I am also pleased to report we continue to get new membership applications coming in which is great. We are about to cross the threshold of our 100th new membership! The Board just approved a new membership so we have one more to go and the applications are in process. This is a great milestone. Just to remind you we shall have a plaque at the new Clubhouse naming all the first 100 charter members!

As a side note, our active memberships are not quite 100 as a very small number have moved away and did not keep non-resident status.

On the water activties

We just had our final Friday Fun Series for this year and will be working to build on that success for next year. We are actively considering new on the water activities for next year such as adult sailing for people to learn to sail or take out a boat if they do not have one. We would like to get member feedback on this and other initiatives.

Annual Members Meeting

The General meeting on Oct 23rd gives an opportunity to not only review the status of the Club on all matters but also get your input on new activities we would like to have in place by the time the building opens. So we look forward to a good meeting with lots of interaction. As the note we just sent out says your input on questions beforehand would be much appreciated. Obviously impromptu questions on the day are fine but to plan an interactive Zoom meeting it helps a lot to have questions in advance.

As always we welcome ideas, questions, comments from all of you. I look forward to a great October at the Club..

Peter
