This holiday period was very different from more normal years but despite that, I do hope that you were able to have an enjoyable and relaxing time.
It is now January 1st and I want to extend my very best wishes to you all for the New Year. Each year we have expectations and anticipation of the year ahead. This year that sentiment is even stronger as we all hope that life can return to more like normal for all of us.
In addition, you probably had some ‘New Year resolutions’ and the Club is no exception.
First, we want to deliver visible progress on the building of the Clubhouse. We are expecting feedback from the City on the road and utilities so we can start construction. They said to us before the holiday that they were in a ‘final review’ so hopefully, we hear quickly. We shall also be delivering the building construction drawings to the City in the next few days and will be asking for a fast turnaround. Our additional resolution on the building is to provide you, the members, with an annual calendar of what you can expect by when so that you can track the progress.
We also look forward to an active social calendar. We learned a lot last year about managing this with appropriate social distancing and are planning events that work well with those restrictions as we anticipate more months of precautionary protocols even with the availability of vaccinations. We have great feedback from the survey that the open-air events are very popular, so we are planning those as soon as we can. We shall also continue with the fun Friday Zoom activities. In addition, we have the Friday Fun Series for sailboat racing, RC laser racing, and more. Assuming protocols allow it we are keen to restart our cruise out events. If you have suggestions for any of these activities or new ideas please do let us know and we shall be excited to follow up.
Our third resolution is to continue to drive membership growth. I am pleased to report that we had an additional three full memberships agreed by the Board in December which helped make a good finish to the year. Two of these were introduced by MeeSun Boice our Membership Committee Chair. If you know of potential memberships do please let us know. We shall be keen to follow up and take the time to talk to them. It is to everyone’s credit that despite the pandemic we saw steady membership growth in 2020. We added 18 memberships with 31 new members and now have 163 active members in total.
This year is another very important year for the Club, and the Board and Committees will be working hard to meet all the objectives. Thank you for your membership and support. We look forward to an exciting 2021 for the Club.
