Telling Tall Tales of Life Afloat
International Speaker Series Pacific Voyages with Jamis MacNiven
Friday, May 14th, 6:00 pm (Zoom and In Person)
Jamis MacNiven
Jamis MacNiven is the founder and proprietor of Buck’s of Woodside, the restaurant known around the business world as Venture Capital Central for almost 30 years where Valley tech companies including Netscape, Hotmail, Paypal, Tesla, and countless others had their earliest investment meetings.
With the management of the restaurant now in the hands of his three sons and origin stories of tech giants now the stuff of legend, Jamis has set his sights on new voyages — chronicling the fascinating and wondrous history of distant locales and remarkable voyages of the vast Pacific Ocean.
“My motto is: ‘Travel to places you will never go.’ Trust me when I say I will take you to places you have not considered. This is a vacation from the cares of the world with not a whiff of the virus. But watch out for malaria, beriberi, blackwater fever, typhus, cannibals, murderous mosquitos, sharks, sea urchins, saltwater crocodiles, deadly jellyfish, political shenanigans, white bread with Spam and wildly overpriced Pina Coladas.”
“For me, it’s time for some blue water under the bow; so come with me and my parrot, Zimbabwe, and I’ll take you on a trip to strange and wondrous places.”

Please congratulate member Winston Bumpus Awarded the PCYA Burgee of Merit Trophy
At the Annual Meeting of the Pacific Coast Yacht Association Meeting (PCYA), Winston Bumpus was awarded the PCYA Burgee of Merit trophy. Each year the Commodore of PCYA selects a candidate who has best supported the mission and promoted the image of the Pacific Coast Yachting Association. This unique silver cup was actually given to a first-place finisher in a PCYA regatta in 1923, the first year of its existence. The cup is on display at The Club for the remainder of the year. Congratulations Winston and thank you, for all you do for boating, for The Club, and for youth sailing.
Pacific Coast Yachting Association (PCYA), established in 1923, is composed of yachting and cruising associations from Vancouver, B.C., Canada, to San Diego, California. These associations are in turn comprised of hundreds of clubs representing thousands of competitive and recreational boaters. PCYA’s Mission is to promote boating for the greatest good of the sport itself, in all its forms, across the entire Pacific Coast of North America and Hawaii by the holding of Pacific Coast Championships on the highest Corinthian plane. Winston served as their commodore in 2018. For more information go to www.pcya.info
