ClubBuzz: President’s July 2021 Message

First I wish everyone a great 4th July weekend. It has been a long year but now those restrictions are largely lifted an opportunity for all to enjoy this celebration. As you know the Club has a great event planned on Saturday 3rd so please join us if you are in town.

The month of June saw lots of activity at the Club. Here are the highlights.

On the building, we are waiting for the construction application to be granted. We continue to expect that in July. The road/utility work is proceeding well as can be seen as you walk or drive by the area. There was a hold-up in delivery of the underground pipe so that means completion will be in July but importantly that does not affect the overall critical path of the project.

The events have been very well supported and everyone is enjoying the opportunity to get together. Our objective is to continue this throughout the year and provide a mix of concerts, film shows, speaker series, and social get-togethers such as the Pub Quiz and Craft Beer Nights. If there is something additional you would like to see do let us know!

We have been providing events gratis during the pandemic. Now that things are returning to normal we shall go back to a modest charge for events plus any food or drink provided. This will start after the 4th of July weekend. The objective is simply to break even on the cost of these. The Club’s financials are strong but we also want to keep our reserves in place to pay for the costs of moving into the new building. The fixtures and fittings for example are a Club expense.

In addition, the Friday Fun Series is going well and it was good to see PYSF joining that in the June race. And I do hope you saw the great activity on the water this last weekend. Just tremendous to see the junior sailing program doing so well. 

I am pleased to report that the membership applications received in June have been approved so we added 6 new memberships in the last few weeks. Additional applications are in process so the momentum is continuing. With building construction starting soon we expect that to continue to ramp up. The Membership Committee and Board will put a lot of focus on this in the coming months.
