July 4th Weekend
Concrete Pouring at The Club
Progressive Dinner on the 4th
Best Fireworks on the Peninsula
Photos from the Friday Fun Series

Hello <<First Name>>,

We get to celebrate our nation’s birthday this weekend and there are several fun things going on at The Club and the harbor. I hope you can join us.

!!! First things first, the concrete pouring of the slab for our new building is planned for Thursday. I say “planned” which means that anything can happen to change this schedule so be prepared. But, if you’d like to see the pouring the harbor has given members permission to watch from the trail, outside the fence. It will be noisy and possibly quite dusty.

On Friday, it is Friday Fun Series Race #6 – check out the amazing pictures below.

Of course, the big event is Monday. The annual parade (the largest in northern California) will be happening in downtown Redwood City (noon at City Hall) followed by what is renowned as the best fireworks show on the Peninsula at the Port of Redwood City.

The Club’s members are organizing a progressive dinner followed by the fireworks.

All the wonderful details … below.

July 4th at The Club at Westpoint
For the first time since 2018, the Fireworks are back
Join us for a boat-to-boat progressive dinner

The July 4th Fireworks show is back at Redwood City. As the county seat, Redwood City’s display is one of the best on the Peninsula.

Join other members for a progressive dinner as we wander from boat to boat. Make something to share and invite your fellow members aboard your boat. We’ll start around 7:00 and arrive on C-dock for great views of the pyrotechnics at about 9:30 pm. Sign up here. The events team will coordinate menus with you.

IMPORTANT TRAFFIC INFORMATION FROM
REDWOOD CITY POLICE DEPARTMENT

On the 4th, once the public parking capacity at the Port is full, the Redwood City Police Department may, at its discretion, CLOSE Seaport Blvd at Blomquist Street. The Seaport Boulevard closure may occur as early as 7:00 pm. If you are planning to be at the harbor for the fireworks please make sure you arrive well before 7:00 pm.

Members of The Club will receive a parking pass giving them
access if the road is closed. It will be in Friday’s Club Buzz.

Friday Fun Series Race #4 Photos
And a wonderful race review from Tina White

Friday Fun Series Race & Dinner

Last Friday’s Fun Series was a blast with warm 10-15kt Summer breezes, a spectacular sunset in the beautiful South Bay skies, and five yachts from small to large including one catamaran competing in this super friendly race series.

Larry Mayne set a perfect course for the breeze up and around marker 12, down to 2, back up to 12, and a fantastic run back to the finish line.

All crew and skippers met back at the Fuel Dock at Westpoint Harbor for drinks and dinner as Hugo fired up the grill.  We had an unexpectedly large turnout – Russ thinks he counted 30 people onboard Hugo at one point and another 15 on the dock. All five boats were packed with the crew – quite a few had never sailed before and others who had never done a race before –  a very cool introduction to sailing!

What a wonderful way to celebrate the end of the working week with some South Bay delights, a fun race, and enjoying a few drinks and a delicious meal with new friends.

Stay tuned for the next on Friday, July 1st.

Tina

Westpoint Regatta
Weekend of July 15th, 16th, and 17th
The Club at Westpoint is this year’s host

The 2022 Westpoint Regatta will be on Saturday, July 16th, 2022. This epic and fun race will depart from Treasure Island, navigate around Alcatraz, and then take a full-speed downwind thrill ride all the way to Westpoint Harbor.

The race starts on Friday evening, July 15th, with a welcome reception at Treasure Island Yacht Club and afterward at Mersea Restaurant.

The first boats will start racing the next day, Saturday the 16th at 11:00, with the last one arriving at Westpoint Harbor around 5:30. There will be the traditional Island Time Party, open to everyone, at the Harbor with food, a band, and dancing until 10:00 pm.

And on Sunday, there’s breakfast for the crews before they set sail or their home ports.

Full details and how to register can be found on the Westpoint Regatta website.

Volunteers Needed: Members, guests, and friends of The Club at Westpoint we need your help. This is one of the biggest races of the year in the Bay Area. We need help:
