ClubBuzz: Part 2 of our 2022 retrospective. Its another wet and windy day so get the cocoa on and take a look at the fun stuff we did this year.

A look back at what happened
at The Club in 2022 (part 2)

The “pineapple express” is here, <<First Name>>, so warm up the cocoa and settle down for some memories from July to December.

And, of course, let me wish you a very happy New Year!!

Kevin

July 2022

July got off to a roaring start with the Westpoint Regatta. This annual event returned after a Covid hiatus. Over 200 people (skippers, crew, fans, volunteers, and people passing by) in the after race party. The weather was perfect and the race thrilling.

The race started at Treasure Island and finished in Redwood Creek. After months of planning the event was a great success and a huge thanks to all those that helped put it together. SPUN, the amped up the energy and played until late with dancing on the dock on a perfect evening.

Framing began in July and we had the wonderful spectacle of “sticks out of the ground.”
And club life returned to normal with our Summer Concert Series featuring the incredible EZ Motion out on the helipad.

August 2022

As Pub Quiz fanes will recall, the Dog Days of Summer is when, according to the Romans, Sirius rises alongside the Sun. And so we pulled up the nearest party barge and just hung out on the docks. Gathering our strength for the August concert with that crazy Silicon Valley Band, Fully Funded.

The second story of the clubhouse was now up and members got to see some of the spectacular views the building will have.

February filled up fast. The trip to St. Francis is a highlight of every year’s cruise-out calendar. As usual St. Francis’ delightful dock crew took good care of the fleet getting our little flotilla nestled neatly into the harbor.

Meanwhile, at the clubhouse, fans gathered for the Superbowl potluck.

The big news for the month though was the long-awaited building permit from the City of Redwood City. Now we’ll see progress on the building and, sure enough, the next day foundations were being laid.

And, with Covid (somewhat) behind us, we started to open up the clubhouse to events.

September 2022

The Cruise-Out highlight of the year the Labor Day Weekend trip to Saualito’s Schoonmaker Harbor. With its prime position for a walk downtown and it’s lovely beach, out Cruise-Captain, Shannon, makes this a weekend to cherish.

(Below left) Our new Events Committee Chair, Ursula Cody, organized Docktoberfest for us. With her German ancestry and fine planning skills we had the most memorable of evenings to the authentic Oompah sounds of the Alpine Sound.

(Above right) Dana Sanderson led the Coastal Cleanup day and recruited a fine band of volunteers to help, many from our Junior Sailing Program at PYSF. They collected over 100 pounds of trash.

October 2022

October saw the Annual Members Meeting with members getting a sneak preview of the inside of the new clubhouse before the meeting was called to order. .

Our final concert of the year welcomed local fan favorites, Krim, and our talented members embraced the Hallowe’en spirit (thank you Shirley) in the air and others demonstrated their musical talents (the impressive Dan Sanderson).

And Russell and Tina White led a wonderful cruise-out to to Emery Cove Yacht Club. It looks like a lot of fun.

November 2022

Our new co-Chair of the Events Committee, Diana Psyras, introduced The Club to Pilates and Chai. Member Angela Salgado gave a two hour class that was so popular it was repeated in December and is on the calendar for January and February already.

Our President, Robin, led another Fireside Chat and got tremendous feedback from the members.

And our last cruise-out was to San Francisco Yacht Club led once again by Shannon. This is another of those not-to-be-missed club events.

And, yes, that is me improvising a hat in the blazing noonday sun!

December 2022

The festive season was soon upon us. The Events team and our Harbormaster colleagues did a spectacular job of decorating the the harbor house and clubhouse (thank you!).

Our club Holiday Open Houses (kids and adults versions) were wonderful with all sorts of games and fun activities.

The Harbor Holiday Party and Boat Lighting Competition is a great way to end the year. With its dizzying array of creativity, illumination genius, and good old seasonal cheer (in every sense of the word),

Once again the harbor invited The Club to join in. We supplied the judges, Judy Hyrne, Barb Deméré, and last year’s winners Jeff Birdwell and Holly Winnen. Here is a small sample of the amazing decoartions.

Thanks for coming along this voyage through 2022. Keep sending your pictures and tales for inclusion in The Buzz.

You’ll see a few changes in the New Year (new Club Calendar on the website for example). Let me know what you think.

See you next year!

Kevin
