Summer Concert – Scott Kirby – Saturday
Join us in The Clubhouse for the amazing Scott Kirby
Saturday, June 10th at 6:00 pm

Singer, songwriter, guitarist, storyteller, traveler, road warrior, and sailor are all words that aptly describe Scott Kirby. Finishing songs while driving through the Italian countryside, performing 100 plus live shows throughout the US and Canada, touring Ireland with 50 fans, and recording his tenth album in Nashville, all keep the barnacles off this modern-day troubadour.

This is Scott’s fourth trip to The Club. He was one of the first acts to perform for us and has become an annual favorite.

Food at 6:00
Concert at 7:00

Great Opportunity To Sail Competitively
The Lipton Cup is an annual regatta where 10 clubs compete against each other over three days (June 16,17,18). This year the regatta is sponsored by the San Francisco YC and J22 boats are made available for charter by St. Francis YC. The regatta venue is City Front and Knox/Angel Island. The Club at Westpoint has a yacht in the competition and needs to recruit a 4-person team for each day.
There are three short races Friday, seven short races Saturday, and three short races Sunday. All races start around noon.

Sir Thomas Lipton first came to San Francisco Bay in 1912 to compete in 12-meter racing at the Panama-Pacific International Exposition. The Lipton Cup was raced in 1916, 1918, 1919, and 1920. The Cup was won by John Hanify but when he died the 12-meter class also collapsed and the Cup itself was “lost” for 40 years. The Cup was found in 1960 at the Olympic Club and PICYA revived these races.

The Club at Westpoint has entered a team in this year’s race and will be competing against teams from Berkeley, Corinthian, Encinal, Richmond, Sausalito, St. Francis, South Beach, San Francisco, and Inverness Yacht Clubs.

Cruise-Out to Ayala Cove
The is the perfect spot for a tranquil weekend cruise
Friday, June 16th to Sunday 18th, 2023

Ayala Cove Cruise-Out
You might have noticed the June cruise out was listed as TBD. Let’s do Ayala Cove the weekend of June 16th.

This cruise out will be informal and won’t have a sign up sheet. Just let me know if you’re interested and I’ll include you in the planning communication. Grunion will likely head up on Thursday June 15 and make it a long weekend.

In August of 1775, Lt. Juan Manuel de Ayala, a Spanish Naval officer, sailed the ship the San Carlos into San Francisco Bay and anchored into what is now know as Ayala Cove. The first Europeans to sail into the San Francisco Bay, Ayala and his crew spent forty days making a chart of the area. Following a practice then common among Catholic explorers naming sites for the religious feast days nearest to the time of discovery, Father Vicente, the chaplain of the San Carlos, christened the little island Isla de Los Angeles.

In 1954 a number of citizen’s groups managed to persuade the California State Park Commission to obtain 36.82 acres surrounding Hospital Cove for a State Park. The federal government had already declared the island surplus property, and in 1958 even more acreage was acquired by the State. In December 1963, the entire island was turned over to the State. On September 6th, 1969 Hospital Cove was renamed “Ayala Cove” in honor of the Spanish lieutenant who charted it.
